It's important to have passion for what you do; otherwise, it's just a "job", and that will ultimately show in your work. I have a true passion for web design. I get to work with both my creative, artsy side, as well as my technical, geeky side with every website I design.
Web design is not just about putting up a pretty website. There's a lot that needs to be done to ensure that a website ranks well, displays well, functions well, and holds the attention of website visitors. This includes search engine optimization (SEO), accessibility functionality to ensure that the website is easily useable for everyone including those with vision impairments, optimizing images so that they look crisp without bogging down the speed of the website, testing the website in various browsers and devices to ensure that it functions properly everywhere, and much more.
The time, effort and determination I put into my websites really shows. The end result is beautiful and clean and easy to navigate, super fast loading (a major Google ranking signal), and most importantly, can rank extremely well in search engines! Creating a work of art that also helps my clients get new business? Now THAT is true "job satisfaction"!
My websites are simple, organized, and easy to navigate, and I build them myself (no outsourcing), by hand, manually, using up‑to‑date website coding standards.
I do not use WordPress or any automated templates or content management systems. There are many disadvantages to WordPress websites and other template sites, such as frequent maintenance issues, security problems and vulnerability to hackers, proprietary coding that confuses search engines (which can result in a lower search ranking), display and compatibility issues with some browsers, and.
I can build websites for every budget, starting with one-page websites, up to fully custom websites that I can create according to your specifications (see my Website Portfolio). And unlike many web designers, I DON'T lock you into an annual contract when I build you a website. My web design service is a one-time fee (which you can pay one time or in installments), and once you pay for it, you own it. I do offer some optional services that recur, such as website maintenance and Facebook posting.
My websites are not just mobile-friendly — they're "fully responsive". This means that the formatting changes based on the device, browser and screen size on which it's viewed. Responsive websites create a seamless user experience and improved search engine optimization. In fact, the official Google Search Central website recommends that websites utilize responsive design. Read their article.
Many web designers build websites that are just mobile-friendly, so they may look "odd" on all but the most common devices. These days there are a myriad of displays, screen sizes and resolutions, so building a website that's optimized just for desktop and mobile will no longer cut it.
Want to see how a responsive website changes formatting based on display size? Just resize your browser window width! If you don't know how to do this, see instructions on this page.
I can have your website finished and ready to publish within a few days. However, the process almost always takes longer because I must wait for, say, a domain name to transfer, or for my clients to send photos, review work I've done so far, make the next payment, etc. But I always take the initiative to remind my clients when I need something, rather than sitting back and waiting!
I do not post my prices for the same reason most of my clients do not post theirs... to discourage "tire kickers" and competitors. Plus there are too many variables and options, such as website layout, number of pages, off-site services like online marketing and social media, your budget, and more. It's like a homeowner asking a contractor how much they charge for a roof or a new kitchen, without providing details. I can give you a ballpark "range", but it's best to go over details on the phone.
Between research I've done and clients I've talked to, my prices are on the low end of average. Never go for the cheapest price, because like most things, you get what you pay for. A 10-page website for $500 is like a cheap meal at a buffet joint in a bad neighborhood... you get a lot of "stuff" that might look good on the surface, but you'll pay for it in the long run!
Find out how much an average website costs before you start shopping for a web designer, so you'll have a general idea of what to expect.
I handle ALL of your website development needs, including setting up your web hosting and domain names with a GoDaddy-owned company that offers unlimited bandwidth and 99.9% uptime. Unlike many web designers that retain ownership of your domain name and hosting (making it difficult to extricate yourself from their services should you wish to move on), with T. Brooks Web Design YOU will be the legal registrant of your domain name.
I don't build e‑commerce websites (online stores), unless you're selling just a couple of items. Almost all of my clients are "service" companies that don't sell products online. Why not? There are too many rules, regulations, security and legal issues to contend with when dealing with e‑commerce. In addition, e‑commerce websites require databases that are difficult to implement with a hand-coded website. E‑commerce is the ONE (and ONLY one) area in which a template site outshines a hand-coded website. If you need an e‑commerce website, just do a Google search for e‑commerce website builders.
